What is Jazz dance?
Jazz dance is characterised by rhythmic, expressive movements. It came to prominance with Jazz music, popularised in ballrooms by the big bands of the swing era in the 1930s and 1940s.
Jazz dance incorporates ragtime moves such as, Charleston, Lindy hop, and Mambo. It has had a foundational influence on many other dance styles such as hip hop, contemporary, and modern dance. But most of all, Jazz dance is energetic, chessey, and super fun.
What is Contemporary dance?
Contemporary is a highly creative and expressive style of dance. It’s about interpreting abstract thoughts, concepts and emotions into fluid dance movements.
Contemporary combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary is one of the most current and popular styles of dance today and is often seen on dance talent shows.
